Nintendo pioneered hand-held entertainment in the '80s and made it fully mobile with the Game Boy™ video game system. Now, Nintendo is transforming the way people access, experience, create and share content with the new Nintendo DSi™ system, the third iteration of the world's best-selling portable video game system.
With a price point of $169.99, the DSi is launching alongside Rhythm Heaven sooner than anticipated.
Well, I am excited for the Wii Punch Out release. This is a throw back to one of my old time favorites on NES. The great thing about it, seems to me they are enhancing the old game. Looks like the same fighters are in it. Will they add ear biting for Mike or will he not be the final fight?
Remember this guy? His pants falls down and you punch him in the stomach. Ahhh the memories of NES Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. The endless hours of figuring out what to do on each fight.
With Nintendo’s release of their financial statement comes a pretty surprising list of all time sales numbers. According to VGChartz shipments of Wii Sports has now surpassed the all time sales of Super Mario Bros (NES, 40.24 million).
The Wii Games list below represent games that have sold at least 1 million copies since April 2008 and total sales since launch of the game title. I would not be surprised to see Wii fit climb quickly this year.
Wii Games Topping the Charts
* Wii Sports - 40.5 million
* Wii Play - 20.91 million
* Wii Fit - 14.01 million
* Mario Kart Wii - 13.67 million
* Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 8.1 million
* Super Mario Galaxy - 7.66 million
* Mario Party 8 - 6.28 million
* Animal Crossing: City Folk - 3.22 million
* Wii Music - 2.50 million
* Link’s Crossbow Training - 2.44 million
* Mario Super Sluggers - 1.21 million
Announced today is the long awaited and rumored Wii DJ Hero. Speaking with CNBC Kotick was quoted as saying:
“We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs,” said Kotick. “So there’s definitely some physical interface that is starting to have an impact on the consumer.”
If this is even close to being as popular as Rock Band and Guitar Hero, we may see another large success in the works. This is the next step that would make the most sense. Lets just say we are just seeing the beginning of the gaming industry.
Nothing more fun then getting on one of the titles with a drunk friend half way across the world and hearing them fumble through a drum solo, or slurring their words. Is the gaming world getting smaller or what?
